1952 -- Roman Delgado (1894-1952) dies. Spanish-Mexican anarquista, who emigrated to America at 16 & joined a Magoniste group in San Antonio, Texass.
A Magoniste, imprisoned in 1916 for participating in a strike, Delgado went to NY where he was expelled from the country; active with anarchist groups in México City until his death.

1967 -- A one-man showing of 48 paintings by Henry O. Tanner is presented at the Grand Central Galleries in New York City. The presentation of the canvases, not in the best of condition, is criticized by "The New York Times" as an "injustice to a proud man."
1969 -- US: White House Communications Director Herbie Klein sez he opposes government intervention in coverage of the news, but "this would be invited" by failure of TV networks to regulate themselves.
1969 -- US: Time-Sharing? America discovers My Lai, as the American media can no longer ignore the story after a year of refusing to print the story.
Twenty-four were charged in the murders & their cover-up, but only William Calley is convicted. His punishment consisted of being confined to his apartment.

Over the past 18 years, a third of East Timor's population has been killed.
"We will eat the heart of those who come to East Timor," claimed one pro-Indonesia militia commander opposing the UN efforts to stop the state-run mayhem & murder.
1995 -- Not Again?: Jack Finney dies. Author who specialized in thrillers & science fiction. Wrote the time-travel novel Time & Again (1970) & science-fiction thriller The Body Snatchers. The former won him a devoted cult following, beloved especially by New Yorkers for its rich, painstakingly researched descriptions of life in the city over a century ago.
"The Body Snatchers" (later reissued as "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"), a chilling tale of aliens who emerge from pods in the guise of humans whom they have taken over. Many critics interpreted the insidious infiltration by aliens as a cold-war allegory that dramatized America's fear of a takeover by Communists. Finney maintained that the novel was nothing more than popular entertainment. The 1956 film "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" was remade twice.

The accused have never denied the charge of misusing the funds of the student union. Indeed, they openly admit to having made the union pay some $1500 for the printing & distribution of 10,000 pamphlets, not to mention the cost of other literature inspired by Internationale Situationniste. These publications express ideas & aspirations which, to put it mildly, have nothing to do with the aims of a student union. One has only to read what the accused have written, for it is obvious that these five students, scarcely more than adolescents, lacking all experience of real life, their minds confused by ill-digested philosophical, social, political & economic theories, & perplexed by the drab monotony of their everyday life, make the empty, arrogant, & pathetic claim to pass definitive judgments, sinking to outright abuse, on their fellow-students, their teachers, God, religion, the clergy, the governments & political systems of the whole world. Rejecting all morality & restraint, these cynics do not hesitate to commend theft, the destruction of scholarship, the abolition of work, total subversion, & a world-wide proletarian revolution with "unlicensed pleasure" as its only goal. In view of their basically anarchist character, these theories & propaganda are eminently noxious. Their wide diffusion in both student circles & among the general public, by the local, national & foreign press, are a threat to the morality, the studies, the reputation & thus the very future of the students of the University of Strasbourg.
