Here is an alternate view in regards to the backlash on soy. Also, not all soy comes from South America and I understand that there are even local sources.
You don't appear to have read the whole article. It's not the source of the soy that is the greatest cause of concern (at least not in terms of country of origin), but its insalubriousness and sheer abundance in our national diet.
